Bug Description
Binary package hint: banshee
With Banshee installed into a clean Karmic install, it just displays a little orange X icon next to mp3 files. It can play oggs with no problems so I presume this is because it doesn't have a plugin for this format. Unlike other Ubuntu programs, it doesn't give me a dialog to install the missing software.

Have you actually tried to click (or double click) on the song and then see if banshee shows any dialog? My banshee setup is not working otherwise I would have checked it myself.
