Bug Description
This is the output after I typed 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade'. I only type the apt-get command, the extra blank space and command prompt lines were not added by me. It is almost like extra characters are being sent to the gnome-terminal. 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade' works fine in a tty terminal.

Thanks for your bugreport.
Do you see that in all terminals (gnome-terminal, xterm, linux-console without X)? It looks more like a terminal bug than a apt bug to me.
Cheers,
michael
