Bug Description
Binary package hint: appmenu-gtk
To reproduce:
1. sudo apt-get install xserver-xephyr
2. Xephyr :1 =screen 1000x800
3. DISPLAY=:1 gedit
The resulting gedit has no menu bar. Uninstalling appmenu-gtk "fixes" this bug.

you can unset UBUNTU_MENUPROXY as a workaround
