Bug Description

Binary package hint: apparmor

MinorFs is a (capability based) discretionary access control extension to AppArmor implemented as a set of cooperating userspace (fuse) filesystems. The latest version (0.3.5) has a howto as to installation on ubuntu 8.10.
MinorFs depends on a few cpan perl modules not currently packaged for ubuntu.
I'm not sure if this is the right channel, but I (as the minorfs author) would like to work with an experienced ubuntu package maintainer on getting and keeping MinorFs packaged for ubuntu.

@Pibara: a couple of comments based on the README:

Is there specific reason you're using Proc::DaemonLite? As near as I can tell, the only function used therein is init_server(). Would Proc::Daemon (which exists in the archive) or one of the other daemon'izing libraries suffice? The fewer additional packages needed the better.

Also, the reason that File::ExtAttr fails its tests is that, under ubuntu, the filesystems are by default not mounted with user_xattrs enabled. Remounting the filesystem with that enabled causes the self tests to pass. Does MinorFS depend on user_xattrs? Apparently not, if things still work properly...

Marking as wishlist (which is what all package addition requests are marked as).

The apparmor tools now use python instead of perl. Marking Won't Fix.

What does apparmor tools using python have to do with MinorFS being marked as 'Won' t Fix' ?
The MinorFS codebase is seperate from the AppArmor codebase.

Please have a look at this Linux Journal article to understand how MinorFS and AppArmor are related.

If this is item is to be marked as "Won't Fix", at least do it for a reason that makes sense!

Maybe Jamie was confused by the "perl" keyword in the description...

That said - Nobody stops you from reopening a bug ;-) - and to make things easier, I just did that.
