Bug Description
Prior to the latest update of Amarok everything was working perfectly. The newest version was patched to work correctly with Mysql 5.7 and since then it does not display anything in the applet for Recent Albums.
The last working version I had was 2:2.8.0-0ubuntu7
The current broken version is 2:2.8.0-0ubuntu9
This is on a new clean install of Xenial.
ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04

Some extra info after testing:
Version 2:2.8.0-0ubuntu9 as well as having the broken applet, the app uses over 400MB of ram on startup whereas the older version 2:2.8.0-0ubuntu7 only uses 60MB of ram.
For the moment I've downgraded and pinned Amarok so I can use it properly.
