Bug Description
Binary package hint: pulseaudio
What I expect to happen: I think microphone detection should be automatic on my laptop like it is in Windows. The internal mic should be used by default, but if an external mic is plugged into the microphone jack, that should take over as my main audio input.
What currently happens: I have to manually switch microphones between Microphone 1 (external mic jack) and Microphone 2 (built-in mic) in the Sound Preferences -> Input tab.
I'm not sure if I chose the right package, so feel free to correct me.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit with all packages up to date.
This may be too complicated for a papercut, but I'll nominate it since I'm not sure.

This task depends on specific codec support in the kernel and thus is too complex for a paper cut task.
