It happens with my laptop very often as well. I have an Inspiron E1505 (aka 6400). I am using Mint Gloria 7.
Most of the time I am reading PDF files in Okular and taking notes in Kate while listening to Pandora on Firefox 3.5.2 (Shiretoko), then suddenly my laptop stops responding. I cannot even use the keyboard. (The other program that is normally open is Nautilus).
The same thing happened when I was watching Hulu. So there might be something wrong with Flash.
