Multiformat and multiplatform dictionary manager.

Linguae is a manager of dictionary files under various formats (xdxf, stardict, ling, csv, tab, wb, etc.) and running on many platforms (Windows, Linux, Mac etc.).
Linguae allows, for all the supported formats, the dictionary consulting and various functions ofediting the contents of the dictionaries and handling the dictionaries themselves, among whom converting to various formats.
Linguae also has audio features (recording and listening pronunciations) and the facility of adding illustrations to the items of the dictionary, but these possibilities are available only for the formats using identifiers associated with the items ( Ling format).

Programming Language
Linguae is written in Python/Tkinter. The code is compatible with the versions 2.5 and 2.6 of the Python interpreter.

Characteristics and functionalities
- Multiplatform compatible.
- Compatible with various dictionary formats, in reading, editing and converting.
- Multiuser capacity on shared computer (this capacity varies according to the platform).

Dictionary reading:
- Reading the various supported formats in their native format.
- Translation helper module, usable whatever the dictionary.
- Management of the internal relations between the items (if the format allows it).
- Automatic saving the encodings (for the formats requiring it)

Editing the contents of the dictionaries:
- Modifying the elements (headword and data).
- Adding new items.
- Deleting items.
- Integrated Unicode characters chart.
- Editing the properties (metadata) of the dictionary for the formats allowing it.
- Adjustable sorting the dictionaries.
- Free moving the elements in a dictionary.
- Adding or modifying the audio contents directly from the interface.
- Binding Gif pictures to the elements.

Dictionaries management:
- Creating new empty dictionaries.
- Adjustable finding path and path of the main storage folder.
- Automatic building of reverse dictionaries.
- Crossing dictionaries (L1/L2 x L2/L3 -> new dictionary L1/L3)
- Exporting dictionaries to various formats.
- Importing from CSV text format (CSV or dedicated text format).
- Extracting the modifications made by the user (if the format allows it).

Searching in the dictionaries :
- Text searching in the headwords or the data or both associated.
- Searching items by their ID.
- Searching "on the fly" by typing the beginning of the headword.
- Iterative research in the headwords and the data with optional ligature insensitivity (with or without case sensitivity).

Interface :
- Multilingual capacity.
- Freely sizeable interface and internal panels.
- Adjustable transparency (inactive on some platforms).
- Recursive display of the storage folder in the dropping menu 'Dictionaries'.
- Adjustable polices for display (in an independent way for the headword list and the data).
- Saving the size and position of the window from a session to the other.
- Automatic re-opening the last open dictionary.
- Automatic re-opening the last open plugin.

Miscellaneous:
- Capacity of using plugins.
- Automatic looking for a newer version of the program.
- Automatic looking for a newer version of the dictionary (for the formats allowing it).
