Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I have set both the system default printer and the local default printer to my desktop printer. When I bring up the print dialogue, it chooses one of my network printers instead. The problem exists in both Firefox 3.0 and 3.5 (I submit it here because 3.5 does not have a Report a Problem entry in its Help menu). The default printers are properly recognised in other programs (e.g. Open Office Writer, Gedit, Thunderbird).

The problem also occurs with Gimp 2.6.6, Opera 10.10 beta and with Tomboy 0.14.0, but not with Open Office Spreadsheet 3.01.

This is more of a printer issue since it happens on multiple apps not just firefox. not sure what package it should be under though, maybe cups?

Stan,
Can you run the following command on a terminal to provide us some useful printing related debugging information:
apport-collect -p cups 446215
Please also attach your /etc/cups/printer.conf file and your ~/.cups/lpoptions file.

Pascal,

Thanks for the prompt response once my bug report found you. I've not
used the ubuntu bug report system before. I'm impressed.

I have executed the requested command and attached the files. I notice
that the only file I have is printers.conf while what you asked for is
printer.conf. I assume that was a typo. If not, I await further
instructions.

I assume that the output to my terminal was sent to you automatically,
but in case I have misunderstood, here it is:

Stan,

If I understand correctly you have 2 Canon PIXMA iP5200, one directly connected to your PC via USB and another one connected to another PC on your network with IP address 192.168.2.20, correct me if I'm wrong.

Can you attach your /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file from both your PC and the other PC with IP address 192.168.2.20 so we can see what printer sharing options are enabled?

Pascal,

That is correct. My machine is 192.168.2.10. My wife's, in the other
room, is 192.168.2.20. We are on an ethernet lan. I have attached the
files you requested.

Regards,

Stan
