copy&paste fails for firefox, gaim etc.

Bug Description

When i copy a line in gedit and paste it anywhere else, it's no problem. Even if i close gedit before i paste the line. But if i copy something from firefox or gaim etc. and close the app, i can't paste it anymore.

This is covered by http://www.jwz.org/doc/x-cut-and-paste.html and occurs because the app that you did the copy in has to send the selection to other apps (so if it is no longer running this is not possible). The only way round this is with a clipboard daemon (and that raises questions about what to keep when content negoiation is possible).

This is probably a wishlist item.

Well, then they should make a clipboard daemon, so the application don't have to send it to the other app.

Ctrl+C = put stuff into the clipboard daemon
Ctrl+V = get stuff from the clipboard daemon

This pisses me off!

This bug has been mark as a duplicate of the bug #11334, called: "MASTER Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste"
