Bug Description

I think that this package could add a key-feature to several desktop PCs.

Description from the homepage (http://sourceforge.net/projects/kchildlock/):

"This Linux tool monitors and restricts the usage time of a childrens time spent on the computer. The limits can be specified per day of week, by lower and upper hour, and maximal daily usage time. It requires Linux with the KDE3 Desktop."

KDE-Apps.org-site: http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php/show.php?content=88124

Even if this is a KDE3-program it will be helpfull for some problems on family PCs.

I would suggest to add it to the KDE-EDU default compilation as well as maybe to the kubuntu-desktop compilation, as this is a very small program that has a good solution for a problem on PCs where children should be able to work on.

I agree completely. I've been looking around for a similar app and found none (which is kind of surprising because there already exists a horde of such apps for families in Windows and I don't see any reason why families using Linux shouldn't have similar tools). I've written a simple shellscript-system to mimic the behaviour of this app but it's very crude. I bet there are others too who would love to see this app get its way into the distro.

This bug is tagged needs-packaging which identifies it as a request for a new package in Ubuntu. As a part of the managing needs-packaging bug reports specification, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/Specs/NeedsPackagingBugs, all needs-packaging bug reports have Wishlist importance. Subsequently, I'm setting this bug's status to Wishlist.

For those too impatient to wait for possible future packaging of kchildlock (and were unable to build it from src), there is already a working solution which luckily also functions acceptably with KDE4:

Reviewing needs-packaging bug reports I have concluded that this bug is likely a duplicate of bug 540478. It'd be great if you could help consolidate these bug reports by performing the following actions.

1. Examine both bug reports to determine if they are actually duplicates.
2. Determine which bug report is more complete - a more complete bug report will have a status of Confirmed, Triaged or In Progress, may be assigned to someone or may possess a bug watch.
3. Mark the other bug report a duplicate of the complete one by clicking 'Mark as duplicate' on the right hand side of the bug page.

Thanks for helping out!

Hi Brian!
Thanks for your eye!

I agree that these bugs could be merged. piksi gave also an interesting hint and the reporter of bug 540478 may have the solution for it.

Thanks so far!
