Bug Description

Almost all thinkpads come with a trackpoint and a trackpad. Although Ubuntu does support the trackpoint itself as a tracking device, it would be nice to have a utility to switch between the two. On Windows, Lenovo provides a utility that sits in the system tray and can be clicked on to enable/disable the trackpoint/trackpad. I understand that this can be done via the command line but considering Ubuntu does almost everything automatically in the GUI, this would be a nice touch. It could be in the notification area and of-course shouldn't be provided by default.

Attached is the screenshot of the Lenovo utility in action.

Thanks for your bug.

There is the Synaptics TouchPad util which seems very similar to what you require.

In Ubuntu, install gsynaptics. In Kubuntu, ksynaptics. You should find you can then add the applet to your panel.

Let me know if that resolves what you want.

I can not test it right now, but according to the description of the tool (which has been discontinued and is now replaced by touchfreeze) it should do what the subscriber and me would want. So it would be nice, if this would be packaged for the next release. I will test as soon as possible. The Laptop where the problem exists is travelling right now.

A handy program to configure the trackpoint on Thinkpads is gpointing-device-settings.
