Bug Description

Hi,

when installing Ubuntu in company or work group infrastructures, I always run against the problem that there is no really good LDAP management software available. The best I can see so far is the ldap-account-manager, which still has several shortcomings, e.g. host passwords not supported, or no support for uniqueMember and groupOfUniqueNames. Several important LDAP functions are not available.

So it would be nice if ubuntu got some better LDAP management or ldap-account-manager could be improved.

regards
Hadmut

As interim solution I can suggest Fedora Directory. It is the most complete open source LDAP directory and comes with extensive browser based user interface. As long term solution, wait for FreeIPA, it will definitely simply rock. At this moment it does not really look too good to be honest...

Well, FreeIPA has matured in the meantime; so it might be worth looking at it again. I can point you to Bug #259547 ([needs-packaging] FreeIPA), which is an effort to implement FreeIPA in Ubuntu.
