on Nov 24-27 I log in 15.10 Wily 1 T Western Digital produced the following note, which hasn't been solvable; I don't see a way to restore bug's behavior; amid this posting on 11-27th 8am cst, the flicker error pest took over; it close the monitor then w/mouse clicks, the screen achieved sanity, allowing me to post this sentence and hopefully more info below.

immediately after booting OS says: "Could not apply the stored configuration for monitors

Flicker err bug #1520583 ? Is it anything like a Nvidia bug? My PC's screen looks like a Venetian blind being mismanaged by swift wind. On P5GC-MX, BIOS 0314, 5/27/2007 1510 Wily Ubuntu. A report I can't find says “unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 000000000000008
Am running 1510 Wily Ubuntu on My used 1 Tbit WD in Mirus PC clone runs a newly installed OS great for hours; then screen flips into a fluttering blind affect mode; and for all practical purposes, during the crash, it looks unmanageable. like it crashes amid a fluttering Venetian blind.

OS can be retrieved if I'm patient but at times I must power off & login. OS did not produce a reportable error/crash description.
What work around could be used to solve/smash bug #1520583?

I'm baffled by bug #1520583.

being I'm totally unacquainted with bug #1520583, I ask is it a stranger or a new form of Nvidia related trouble?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. Bug #1520583 [& Bug 1511158] combine as an outflow of a WD 1 T HD that drives 3 other HDs including a 750g maxtor, an 80g seagate and 120 g Seagate. Question, is the flutter arising in the WD HD or somewhere within the 3 other hard drives?

Robie I've gotta ask a higher power's intervention

thx/Seasons Greetings Robie. For now, I don't know which way to turn except seeing months down the tubes
1. I acknowledge I'm the who lost a few very valuable work when a bug crashed my PC, which I can't fix whatever has caused my fluttering greyed out monitor screen, leading to crash after crash, saying for example mysql-server-5.6 5.6.27-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
2. I must set my ailing PC the side, save my files to my cloud; and when feasible wipe this new WD 1T HD clean, then I guess, install 15.04 in lieu of 15.10
3. Already, alternatively I bought a new laptop got me Win 8.1 obsessively wanting to auto-upgrade to Win 10full of advertisements. I mean, to get the peace of mind Linux brings, that I must partition that new laptop's HD and very carefully select and install an OS having better reports
4) Bug #1520583 & Bug 1511158 are in combination are very real. I give up,,,,,. They result as an outflow of a WD 1 T HD that drives 3 other HDs including a 750g maxtor, an 80g seagate and 120 g Seagate. The flutter has arisen just as I entered launchpad trying to respond to your inquiry Robie on this PC's WD HD or somewhere within the 3 other hard drives?
5) I give up and will pay the guys at Frankenstein's store to partition my new ASUS laptop where I've not been able to open the BIOs,,,, ouch...
Again, Seasons Greetings!!!!

@ 4 pm cst 1-12-16, Flicker err bug #1520583 rose its head. The PC's screen again looked like a Venetian blind mangled by a wind.

It self corrected.

My clone P5GC-MX, BIOS 0314, bought 5/27/2007 with 1 tbit WD HD running 15.10 Wily

Eric @ EMAX COMPUTERS tested my hardware saying your PC is stable though it's feasible your ? card may be weak.

I have too little experience or performance data to determine if Bug #1520583 and/or Bug 1511158 have combined.....???

Flicker err bug #1520583 & Bug 1511158 continues every few hours. Sometimes PC must be powered off. Screen gets like a Venetian blind; remains mangled. Depending on severity, I lose work under way.

Because I must turn out results, on 1.20.16, I must set this Mirus P5GC-MX, BIOS 0314, bought 5/27/2007 aside and try a clone...

I just woke early with a question. Before I had chance to seek my own answer my monitor died as the Flicker err bug #1520583 & Bug 1511158 took over.

my G-Partition Editor says the ext 2 file system is 62.65 MiB 26 % used
       1) UUID on this 1 t-bit WD hard drive dc41387a-ee90-463b-a5da-943003503b2b says
       2) its size is 243.00 MiB
       3) its partition path is /dev/sda1 on which its First Sector is: 2048; Last sector is: 499711 and total sectors is: 497664

I report this because there's been a warning that my 1 T-bit hard drive will not allow me to accept a 45 mb update nor will the bugs that I have cited go away. Surely this is a serious situation, which should be solvable.

if I were a developer or even a tech, I would re-size the partition using my G-Partition Editor. Being 76, I am afraid to wipe out hard to get work done on my PC.

Please help solve Flicker err bug #1520583 & Bug 1511158
