Bug Description

After installation of i386 version (32-bit), wifi disconnects after the system has been running for five or more minutes. Tried upgrading from version 14.10 and could not when selecting wifi and connecting. Upgrade would hang. Also happens in KDE 15.04.
The wifi has been working perfectly with previous versions. System is an HP Pavilion with 2 GB of memory. Also have 15.04 running on 64-bit laptop with no connection problems to same cable router.
Tried downloading and installing different or newer copies of i386 15.04 with the same results.

While obtaining this info, the wifi remained connected and working. If it fails once again, will rerun the info check.

Continues to disconnect on Ubuntu/Kubuntu 15.04. It appears that something was dropped or changed to support for RALINK series of WIFI interfaces. There was never a problem in prior versions. When installing KDE 15.04, have to not enable WIFI or it does not install.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have a Realtek 2561.

I tried putting the line "options rt2500pci nohwcrypt=1" in /etc/modprobe.d/rt2500pci.conf without success.

Also, tried disabling the power management writing HOOK_BLACKLIST="wireless" in the /etc/pm/config.d/blacklist; it doesn't help too.

I think at this moment the only workaround is to install a backport.

Using an external USB wireless adapter, like D-Link DWA110 seems to work. I'm using it to download wicd to try this workaround: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1442908/comments/4

A possible workaround is to install wicd and wicd-kde, which seems to work better. You need to stop the network-manager before using wicd-kde.

I confirm the workaround described in #8 but the tradeoff is that it renders the connection to a sluggish level.

I am having something similar. After a while my wifi disconnects and when i select the Network manager icon it shows other SSID's but not my home ssid.

If in a console i run

 $ sudo iwlist wlan0 scan

my wifi re-connects again.
