Bug Description
I wrote about it already a few times. Users should be able to manage and synchronize, backup and restore contacts offline. Ubuntu could be a great alternative for VIP, Police their families Government (the whole family doesn't get secure devices) if we think about privacy and security right from the start. Google is not an option here and it doesn't work correctly anyway (a proper bug was reported long time ago but nobody seems to care). Today if i'm not a power user, able to ask a question on a mailing list and dont/cant use google which doesnt work anyway, my contacts on ubutu device arent safe. If i lost my ubuntu device, i lost my contacts. Ubuntu badly needs its own contact synchronization program which works offline and online.
Today i faced another problem. Probably because of a poor synchronization with google in a memory of my phone are stored at the moment something like a 1000 contacts, perhaps close to 1500. My phone is a small BQ E4.5. Without connecting a phone to the computer we are unable to manage such an amount of contacts. Not on a 4.5' screen. My address book is still a Nokia 5500 because I can manage and synchronize it on a big computer. An adress book of my bq is useless and unreliable. Even if i copy all the contacts from my Nokia phone, which is gonna take ages, i will not be able to copy them to the M10 tablet or backup in case my phone will die or disappear.
