Bug Description

When I want to call my primary target number, I have to tap these:
dialer_app -> contact list -> favorites -> contact -> one number -> call button (which is too small BTW)

This is so unoptimal. Please think about create some new button:
 - to the header of dialer: a button to favorites
 - to the contact list: a button to call the primary number
Than on the contact list we need a way to change primary number, and
after all of this, the usage path will chane to this:

dialer_app -> favorites -> call primary

Maybe the favorites would be the default screen, so:

dialer_all -> call primary :D Wow!

I hope, it is not too big work. It would be big UX boost.

I have some other ideas too, if you are interesting, I will write those to you,
just ask once ;D.

-------- UX comment ----------

This is not a really a bug but a new feature request and as mentioned in comments below there will be an additional tab in the RECENT calls view for favourites and frequently called will appear on the top of the RECENT calls view.

To dial a frequently called number:
The interaction would be, dialer->recents->frequently called->tap the number

To dial a favorite the interaction would be:
dialer->contacts->favorites->tap the number

Design is agreed, marking the bug as Fix Committed.

Here is the spec where the UX will be documented:

There's at least two other ways to dial frequently used numbers quickly:-

1) In the today scope, scroll up and your most recent contacts are there, tap one, tap call.
2) in the dialer app, swipe up from the bottom to find recent calls, swipe up, tap one, call

From UX perspective the first impression, the first days are much important than the others. You are right, the today scope has a better way to call, but the beginner user (which I am) naturally try to use the dialer if he want to start a call. And it is so uneasy now. If the developer team create some new button (two actually), the user experience will much better. I hope, it is not too big request. BTW I can create those buttons myself, but is there way to apply a patch to a core app? What is the way of this?

This has been discussed with design. The plan is to have another section on "Recents" view of dialer with "Frequently Called" and remove Frequently Called from the Contacts view. The current plan proposed by design is the following:

To dial a frequently called number:
The interaction would be, dialer->recents->frequently called->tap the number

To dial a favorite the interaction would be:
dialer->contacts->favorites->tap the number

Can you (designers) write me, what will the default tab of dialer app? Will you create a wireframe before the real implementation?
