Bug Description

When opening the Help

The below lines contains the problem. Remove the extra spaces and the problem goes away and Norwegians can get their help page in the Software Center.

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/raring/software-center/raring/view/head:/po/help/nb.po#L409
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/raring/software-center/raring/view/head:/po/help/nb.po#L498

(Easily fixed, but I am too familiar with the git/GitHub process to figure out how to suggest the corrections directly in Launchpad.)

To prevent this from regressing in any other language, I suggest adding a XML sanity test for the generated XML files. Such a sanity check for validity will easily pick up on simple oversights such as this from the translators.

The bug is present in Ubuntu 12.10 and in Raring Ringtail (the above URLs point to the latter.) Software Center version 5.4.1.2, at least.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Indeed the software-center help complains about the xml when opening it.

Software-center is translated in Launchpad, so I believe it should be sufficient to remove the space from the translations there. The new translations will then be synced to the package and rolled out at some point. The two strings you mention above corresponds to the following translations:
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/quantal/+source/software-center/+pots/software-center-doc/nb/49/+translate
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/quantal/+source/software-center/+pots/software-center-doc/nb/60/+translate

I've removed the spaces from these two.

Unrelated info: if you want to get started pushing code to Launchpad, please see https://help.launchpad.net/YourAccount/CreatingAnSSHKeyPair and https://help.launchpad.net/Code/UploadingABranch.
I'd also like to mention Ubuntu Norge on Launchpad (https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-no). We have an IRC channel as well, #ubuntu-no, so if you have any other questions or just want to say hi feel free to stop by. :)

Setting to Fix Committed for Translations since translations have been fixed in Launchpad. Invalid for Software-Center since this is a translation issue.

Has the fix been released yet?

Hm, in software-center 13.10-0ubuntu1 on Ubuntu 13.10, opening the help no longer leads to a crash. However, the help itself is displayed in English, despite that most of it should be translated to Norwegian. All other programs are displayed with Norwegian locale as well.

So it doesn't crash, but it doesn't seem to load the Norwegian translations which used to trigger the crash either. Not sure whether I should file this as a separate bug.
