Bug Description

With the eee and eee-lean kernel version 2.6.27.8 there are only the channels PCM, LineOut, Capture and iSpeaker present in alsamixer and kmix. PCM controls the real headphone/lineout jack, while LineOut controls the real speakers. iSpeaker has no loudness control, only option with this one is mute or not. When muted in alsamixer the real speakers are muted.

So theret is no possiblity to control the global volume, only speakers and headphones seperately.

Using normal ubuntu kernels version 2.6.27.7 and 2.6.27.9 there are other channels (Master, Headphone, PCM, Front, Front Mic, Front Mic Boost, Capture, Input Source) present. I can't find a normal linux-image-2.6.27.8 ubuntu to see if it is the same with this too.

This occurs on a eee1000 with kubuntu 8.10, so no pulse-audio involved. Maybe it is related to bug #300474.

I think you're right. Basically there is incomplete work in this version of Alsa to warrant full sound card support.

Upstream alsa may already have a fix for the problem... It may already be fixed in Jaunty

OK, I wonder if there's an issue in your specific sound card, or maybe asus released some non-standard sound cards for some devices. For everyone encountering this problem, please cite your device and run the command:

  $ sudo lspci -v -nn | grep -A 7 Audio

Eee 1000; I changed the 7 to 9 in the grep command to get the whole Audio-Block.
