How about adding a function "horizontal lock" that would block all horizontal displacement while allowing only vertical displacement? This way the user would zoom to the desired magnification level (such that for example the white spaces would not be visible), then apply the "lock" so the document could be scrolled only in the vertical direction. Would also this be difficult to implement?
