Check your mimeTypes.rdf in your home thunderbird directory.

Probably there is a wrong line like this (under <RDF:Description RDF:about="urn:mimetype:video/x-flv" )

NC:value="video/x-flv"

Delete it and restart thunderbird.

Who put that line there is a different mistery.

Changing mimeTypes.rdf did fix it (thanks Alfonso!).

Folks with the same problem have to note that changes are not visible on your own already created mails.
So test the changes on external mails or create an new one with a pdf attachment.

Changed in thunderbird:
status: New → Invalid

I have experienced the very same problem. What seems to be the cause of this?

Why is this changed to "invalid"? Changing back.

We are confirming this problem – it seems pretty simple: Someone accidentally inserted the PDF filetype in the video file registration. Deleting the PDF filetype/The video file description solves the problem.

I don't know which filetypes the video should refer to – I guess this is easily fixable.

Another comment: The mimeTypes.rdf was located in the User configuration folder – can anyone reproduce this error on a fresh install?

Changed in thunderbird:
status: Invalid → Confirmed

Could the cause be related to importing profile folder from Windows?

The bug also affects me. I removed the line in the mimeTypes.rdf and it did fix the bug.

I did not import my profile folder from windows.
