I think that it would be really good if Thunderbird had proper support for GNOME Online Accounts.

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux i686; rv:19.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/19.0
Build ID: 20130227155259

Steps to reproduce:

I configured my Google account in GNOME Online Accounts.

Actual results:

Nothing.

Expected results:

Thunderbird should have automatically created an IMAP account for my GMail address, configured my contacts and my Google Calendar from my Google accounts.

This could actually be a great way to engage with Linux users, and would go a long way towards making Thunderbird a viable candidate for returning to being the defacto Linux mail app.

Hello Wise,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with Gnome online accounts and Thunderbird. You made this bug report in 2016 and there have been several versions of Ubuntu and Thunderbird since then.

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the ticket?
If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to this bug?
If you are, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect BUGNUMBER
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu and Thunderbird better.

I also would enjoy being able to have such an integration, it would offer a more consistent user experience for Linux / Gnome users.

I was forced to switch from thunderbird to evolution a couple of years ago, as I have one email account in an microsoft AD environment with a username in the following form: [domain]\[user], and the only way to login is through gnome online accounts, which evolution supports, but sadly, thunderbird does not.

Please consider adding this functionality.

The entire staff focus for the last 12 months has been Supernvova version 115 (which brings improvements for **all** platforms) and will continue to be so through September. This bug will be evaluated after September, if no statement has been posted by then.

I used Thunderbird for many years but grudgingly switched to Evolution awhile back because of this issue. IMHO, contacts and calendar sync should be considered an essential, core functionality for any application that manages contacts and calendars. Evolution's user interface is clunky as heck, but at least I don't have to pull out my phone every time I want to look up an email address.

Supernova looks great, but I think it's time to seriously focus developer attention on this issue. It's really way past due. If someone on the Mozilla team wanted to create fundraiser specifically earmarked for the development costs of implementing this feature, I'd happily contribute to that.
