Bug Description

Binary package hint: thunar

I am using the latest version of hardy and I have noticed that the icons in the toolbar of thunar are about twice the size of those in other GTK apps(and my gutsy version of thunar).

I was using Clearlooks at the moment with the Discover Icons when I took that screenshot, tho I have tested this with all the included themes and icons sets(and tango).

For further info I am using a 1920x1200 screen if for some reason it is using gdk_screen_height/width to find my screen width and adjusting the icons based on that.

A small fix in this patch, I've found that GTK_ICON_SIZE is set to 6 (== GTK_ICON_SIZE_DIALOG)

Using gtk_toolbar_set_icon_size () doesn't sound like a good idea (http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtk/unstable/GtkToolbar.html#id3786874):
"This function sets the size of stock icons in the toolbar. You can call it both before you add the icons and after they've been added. The size you set will override user preferences for the default icon size.

This should only be used for special-purpose toolbars, normal application toolbars should respect the user preferences for the size of icons."

I have the same problem, is this just a problem in Ubuntu or is it a problem general for thunar

Same problem in Arch Linux...this is not an Ubuntu problem.

I can confirm that also with Archlinux I have the same error, strange isn't there any solution?

You could use alextud's patch above, but it seems like a hassle to fully recompile Thunar just to fix this little bug.

I've never had this problem before, it must have something to do with GNOME 2.22, because back on Gutsy I was running a backported version of Thunar 0.9.0. :/

My screen is not widescreen either; I'm running a Samsung LCD at 1280x1024 @ 56hz on an nVidia GeForce4 MX4000 AGP.

Same here on 1280x1024 - not widescreen and I'm seeing the button massiveness.

Nothing new since 2008 08 ?
I have the same issue on my Ubuntu 8.10 (so under Gnome), even after updating thunar to jaunty

This problem still exist under Jaunty in Gnome. Has this been reported upstream?

There seems to be a bug report for thunar, and it seems that the problem only occurs in Gnome, not in Xcfe

The patch attached in this report has been rejected by upstream:

"The approach of the patch is wrong because it forces Thunar to use *small*
icons in the toolbar while most applications default to *big* toolbar icons.
And it will be impossible to change the size globally."

However, please feel free to check the rest of the upstream comments and attempt to formulate another fix for this. If you do create another patch, please remove the 'patch-rejected-upstream' tag.

Note the solution (from http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3971) was;

1. Modify or Create file "$HOME/.gtkrc-2.0"
(or modify the configuration file already in "$HOME/.themes/_your_current_gtk_theme/gtk-2.0" if this folder exists)

2. add the following text;
gtk-icon-sizes = "gtk-menu=16,16:\ngtk-button=22,22:\ngtk-dnd=22,22:\npanel-menu=16,16:\npanel=22,22:\ngtk-dialog=22,22:\ngtk-small-toolbar=22,22:"
