Open file in default application not working

Bug Description
When I type the name of a file, it is found but when I hit enter it opens the containing folder with the file selected but does not open the file in the default application. This is with 'open file' selected by default and explicitly. This is not the same behaviour as 'open folder' which does not select the file.
