I think the original report meant this for the simple selection tool (crosshairs), and I think it makes sense to allow this for both ways...

I think it is not (easily) possible to implement this for the simple selection tool. The screenshot is taken directly after releasing the mouse button (exactly like import, scrot and gnome-screenshot).

I think it doesn't make sense to add the features from one tool (advanced tool) to another (simple tool).
