Bug Description

Upon login, starting screenlets get the focus. This feels odd as they don't accept any input anyway.

Some screenlets accept input all right. Is it a proposal that autostarted screenlets shouldn't get focus?

I'm not sure if starting a normal windowed application (that's what screenlets are) in an unfocused mode is possible with usual means... I know you can do it with http://tomas.styblo.name/wmctrl/ or similar.

Any ideas how to implement it?

Yes , that's a proposal I could very well live with. But unfortunately, I don't have any Idea how that could be done. I thought, maybe there is someting like window manager hints (actually google thinks so too ;-) ) and you could inform it that the window is a widget and should not get the focus automatically.
