Screenlets set as being in "Widget Layer" appear on the desktop NOT in layer when started

Bug Description
Screenlets 0.1.2 (standard version through Ubuntu's repos)
OS: Ubuntu 9.04
Running Compiz
Steps to reproduce:
Start screenlets (manager daemon / reload all screenlets)
Expected result:
Calc is marked as a widget, so should NOT appear on desktop
Actul result:
Calc screenlet appears on desktop...
Until I show then hide the widget layer
NB:
Have also had this issue with sysmonitor widget
Have tried deleting the calc config from ~/.config/
Have observed multiple other inconsistencies (may not be related to this bug)

Please provide some more details as well as wall as check if the problem appears on latest Screenlets from PPA. I remember that widget layer worked for me (though I didn't like the idea), but it needed some configuration of Compiz. There are good instructions found on Compiz plugins page and elsewhere on the Internet.
