Yesterday (10.04) everything worked fine, but after the upgrade (10.10) i can't print anymore.

I'm using a Hp Laserjet P2015n and a Ricoh Aficio 1022 both with a samba connection.

I'm getting this error message: "Error writing spool: Server packet had invalid SMB signature!"

I'm also getting this error message: "Session setup failed: NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_FILE" (this one appears when I try to "print self test page")

I can confirm this printing to an HP Laserjet 1020. Worked before the upgrade.

Jack, I've recently had issues with Ubuntu asking for a password whenever I tried to print previous to the upgrade. Submitting a blank password worked. Then I upgraded. Now I'm having this problem. I'm wondering if you've had similar issues. It's probably unrelated, but I wanted to check.

well, my printing server demands a password. In my network we all have a user and a password to print. I tried to uninstall samba an reinstall it but nothing changed. Now I'm back to windows... I'm sorry, but I do need to print... :(

I can confirm that this is a samba problem: Downgrading to samba version 3.4.7 from lucid fixed the issue for me. I've uploaded a downgraded samba package to my PPA (but be warned, I bumped the epoch on those, so installing them will prevent future automatic updates):

By the way Tom, when you're saying "(...)installing them will prevent future automatic updates", what do you mean precisely? you're talking about samba package or no more updates at all? (kernel,....)

anyway, thanks! I *really* need to print a lot!

Just the samba package... The rest of the system is fine.

hi.
I think that this printing problem is back. After a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 I can't print. Actually I can't autenticate to the printer's server. Keep geting "Print share inaccessible".
I've tried to add a network printer using "system-config-printer" and I'm getting this when error:

"no talloc stackframe around, leaking memory
Kinit failed: Configuration file does not specify default realm
Caught non-fatal exception. Traceback:
File "/usr/share/system-config-printer/newprinter.py", line 2171, in on_btnSMBVerify_clicked
    os.O_RDWR, 0777)
PermissionError: (13, 'Permission denied')"
