Bug Description

i found a tutorial here http://www.ioncannon.net/system-administration/97/using-fetchmail-and-procmail-for-maildir-style-storage-from-a-pop3-account/
which seems fairly straight forward

if this is wanted i would try make it happen

Yes, we do want POP3 support. I am inclined to hide it (a combobox) in the Advanced options because it is clearly less preferable if an account supports both.

I briefly read the tutorial. A comment mentions SSL needs to be enabled. I suggest SSL is enabled just like we do with IMAP (and an option 'Use insecure connection' could be provided if needed).

Is it correct that procmail is required and fetchmail alone can't store in maildir? That feels slightly awkward but I suppose that's fine.
I suggest to add both in the wscript like msmtp, as mandatory tools.

Maybe have a drop-down box that automatically focuses on "IMAP"?

It might be interesting what providers people are interested as for instance Yahoo actually supports secure IMAP (see bug 727057) and most people don't know that.

I would change my default email client if pop3 was supported.
also I have a business account that is pop3 with certificate, do you think it will be supported in a future? it's a zimbra mailbox.

Zimbra supports IMAP. Are you not using it due to a restriction of your company or has the feature perhaps been overlooked?

I could use POP3 for gmx.de or web.de. Both of them do support IMAP -- but you have to pay for a premium account in order to use it.

Cris Dywan (kalikiana) wrote :

That is false. Both support IMAP for free.

Well... you are right. Maybe I've tried with a wrong configurationso far, but it works now. I can't make it work in _Postler_ right now, but that's a different problem.
Anyways, thanks! :-)

yes zimbra supports imap, i set it up. postler asks me if I want to bypass the certificate, I did it and nothing happens. postler can't fetch mail, also yhaoo wich I set up with IMAP stopped working after a first succeeded fetching.
deleting and adding again zimbra account didn't do anything, even the certificate question doesn't appear anymore.

yahoo is acually working after I deleted zimbra account, I confirm yahoo set up with imap: imap.mail.yahoo.com acually works

I could not use imap with my office accounts. I do not think that is right to have only a imap support. I think that would be useful to have a POP3 support too.

Give us POP3 support! It's the only thing preventing me from using Postler.

The only service that don't support IMAP, a far superior protocol, are ISP services (which suck) and Hotmail, which does offer Exchange though.

@Calvin: Yes hotmail don't have IMAP and use only POP, but i think that thousand of people like me use Hotmail

Yes, please add POP to Postler. It would make Elementary even more perfect, and it's already pretty damned terrific.
