Hi, thanks for taking the time to report this bug report. I need more information to figure out the issue.

- Which device are you experiencing this issue on? Which image channel is that running? Stable RTM or Vivid devel-proposed?
- Which version of Podbird are you running? (You can check this in the About Page)
- Does this affect only Podbird? Are you able to play music in other apps?

I am using Podbird on a Nexus 4 (devel-proposed) and BQ E4.5 (OTA 3.5) and unable to reproduce the bug. Podcasts plays properly for me.

Changed in podbird:
status: New → Incomplete

Hey :)

I'm using an BQ E4.5, but I don't know which image channel I'm running, but if it helps, attached my ubuntu-device-flash query --list-channels --device=XYZ output: http://pastebin.com/PftW4pC7
Podbird version is 0.6, and I can play music through the Music App.
Here a log when I try to play a Podcast (It's m4a, is that the problem?): http://pastebin.com/wTcGVY00

Hi guys,

We have a insight as to what the issue here might be. So Podbird plays all podcasts using the platform service called "media-hub" and it turns out that media-hub might be having trouble with playing certain m4a files with embedded cover art as reported in bug 1408681. We would still need some confirmation this is indeed the case.

Looking at your logs, it seems that the file was successfully downloaded to /home/phablet/.local/share/com.mikeasoft.podbird/podcasts/lnp140-hoch-die-internationale-spionageaktivitaet.m4a. What you could do is copy that file over to ~/Music and check if the music app can play it. If it cannot, then we can be sure that it is a media-hub issue and concentrate our efforts on requesting the platform developers to fix it.

@Christoph, Thanks for the follow up to my request for more info and more importantly pointing out that it is a m4a file.

Thanks for using Podbird!

I would like to share my issue, quite similar to Christophe

I've recently download podbird, downloaded a podcast and played it without issue.
After downloading the second podcast, impossible to play it.... I found the trick to start to play the first one and selecting right after the 2, I could listen the second one.
The same technique for the third one, i've to start the first podcast.

When I deleted the 1 podcast and download the 4 one, no problem to start and listen.

Thanks
Otherwise i like it very simple just what we need, great job !
Rgds

I am seeing the same issue. with the following setup:

OTA-8.5
BQ Aquaris 5 HD
Podbird 0.7
Playback over bluetooth or phone speaker

Historically I have seen the problem occasionally. Usually a few restarts of the app or phone worked around it. Yesterday it took 10 minutes of trying until playback went smoothly. Today no podcasts played.
After much trying I found that the first podcast I was trying was not currently available. After that NO subsequent podcasts play.
I've attached logs from podbird and mediahub which have some error which seem to show the problem.

The attached podbird.log is the result of a single click on the play button of a podcast. Two problems stand out here:

1. A Threading problem
QObject::killTimer: Timers cannot be stopped from another thread
QObject::startTimer: Timers cannot be started from another thread
2. Unknown 'Get' method from DBus.Properties
Failed to check if source is video: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: Method "Get" with signature "ss" on interface "org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties" doesn't exist
Failed to get current playback position: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: Method "Get" with signature "ss" on interface "org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties" doesn't exist

The attach media-hub.log is for a longer run attempting to get various podcasts to play. Two error stand out:
a) The initial GST_RESOURCE_ERROR_NOT_FOUND
b) The subsequent 'play not found errors' each representing a single click on the play button
void core::ubuntu::media::ServiceSkeleton::Private::handle_set_current_player(const Ptr&) player key not found - 8

Hope this helps find a fix

Same ussue here with bq E5 OTA9.1
This happens with certain podcasts ¿file type?

A little workaround is to play episode and go into sound (top bar notification) and press play in the media player.

Let me copy and pqste an rss link..

I hope that helps

I'm finding that podcasts that don't play on one day (after many attempts / reboots) will play later in the week. The Retro Hour is one example of this.

Currently I'm having an issue with this podcast, which appears to be in mp3 format:
http://www.contacttalkradio.com/podcasts/marilynschwader.xml

I found for some that if I switched to the music player and played 5+ seconds of local audio and switched back to Podbird it would work but it hasn't worked since the last update I think. Perhaps the underlying issue is different now.

Looks like in my case the http URI for those mp3s is returning a 404 error. However, I'm not certain Podbird is using the same xml file as I used the PodBird search function to add it.
