when chatting with a friend - I don't see my avatar.
on irc, when chatting with people - I see it.

How have you set up your buddy icons? Are you using a global buddy icon (The one next to status selector)? Have you set up per-account buddy-icons? Could you check from debug output / debug window if Pidgin-WebKit shows any errors?
