Shift-drag to select sometimes doesn't copy

Seems to be related to timing information.

With a mouse-grabbing application you need to hold shift to steal the mouse control back, to click-drag for clipboard copy.

When you release the mouse, it only takes effect if you're still holding shift. If you release shift /before/ the mouse button then it doesn't copy correctly, leaving the previous clipboard contents.
