No scale on maps

You've gotta have a scale. It's frustrating to see a map that shows where you are, and where you want to be, and have no idea how far one is from the other.

It is just about possible that adding a tool to measure straight-line distances would be a reasonable substitute. But I'd say not because a) it's fiddly and b) at large scales it'd just be plain wrong because of the curvature of the Earth.
