Bug Description

When printing on an Officejet 7310 with cups and the hplipcups files installed only the first page prints correctly. The second page (at least when printing from eclipse or acroread) has lines across the page and some strange overprinted characters where text is expected.

Another indicator that something goes wrong: the printer windows of eclipse presents only the option of single-sided printing even so the duplex unit is available as per option set when configuring the printer.

Both problems diappear when the hpijs PPD file is installed instead of the hpcups PPD file.

My configuration: openSuSE 11.3 with HPLIP 3.10.2 (including hpcups/hpijs 3.10.2rc1.9) and a LAN-attached Officejet 7310.

Installing the hpcups 3.10.6.15 hpcups PPD file made no difference.

hp-check didn't show any error message regarding this printer, only complained of 2 other printers not installed with hpijs/hpcups PPD files.

Unfortunately, I have to report the same issue. Although it's not always the second page, which is garbled, I am able to reproduce the problem. I'll attach a scan of the printed page, so you get an idea what the problem looks like.

Furthermore, some colors are printed wrong. Green seems to be ok, but blue is printed purple and red something like yellow.

Attached an excerpt from cups.log with a faulty print job.

@OP: did the hpijs drivers work for you? I tried them, but they were awfully slow (~10mins per page).

I have the same problem with my HP Photosmart C3100 series and the hpcups 3.10.2rc1.9 driver. The USB based
printer is correctly detected (and the hpcups driver selected by default). The first page is printed correctly, but the
second has many horizontal lines across the page. The third page is printed quite all in black. I've tested this with
OpenOffice Writer and with Evince (using a PDF file).

The problem appears with hpcups 3.10.2rc1.9 driver, but not with the hpijs driver.

I have the same problem with opensuse 11.3 hplip 3.10.6. First page prints correctly, second page has either patterns around the text, printes completely black or comes out with characters printed double.

Hpijs driver works for me when using usb connection. Wireless is not useable at all (communication errors, slow printing with hpijs driver, communication loss when in standby mode - this seems to be enough for another bug report).

I had the same problem - first page printed fine pages after the first had lines across the page and some strange overprinted characters where text is expected. I resolved the problem by reinstalling the foomatic packages, deleting the printers in the HP device manager and reinstalling them and then resetting all the settings to default in the HP device manager.

using
3.10.9 HPLIP
1.3.11-r2 Cups
3.0.20060720 Foomatic

Hope that helps someone.....

I have the same problem with my OfficeJet Pro 8500 a909g using:

OpenSuse 11.3
hpcups 3.10.9.11
cups 1.4.5

When running the hpijs 3.10.9.11 driver following pages of a multipage print job are OK.

@ Bill: Maybe you changed from hpcups to foomatic-rip or foomatic-rip-hplip. You can check this by searching for "hpcups" in the ppd-file of your printer at /etc/cups/ppd. If so, hpcups still had an issue.
