Grenade does use screen as originally that was the best way to manage the service start/stop. Actually, I think i pre-dated the addition of USE_SCREEN.
It may be possible to switch Grenade to not use screen if this becomes a big enough issue to warrant the time required. I think the addition of screen_stop() was the last bit required to handle that.
