Bug Description

Ubuntu 9.04 with nvidia 9800 GTX+ graphics card
Openshot 1.0.0
Openshot 1.0.0

I can export video to avi and that works. But when I try ogg I get the following in terminal:

~$ openshot
Added /usr/share/openshot to system path
--------------------------------
   OpenShot (version 1.0.0)
--------------------------------
/usr/share/openshot/windows/SimpleGladeApp.py:340: GtkWarning: gtk_toolbar_set_icon_size: assertion `icon_size != GTK_ICON_SIZE_INVALID' failed
  return gtk.glade.XML(self.glade_path, root, domain)
A new frmMain has been created
on_tlbMakeMovie_clicked called with self.tlbMakeMovie
on_cboProjectType_changed
on_cboExportTo_changed
on_btnExportVideo_clicked
consumer_avformat.c: audio codec libvorbis unrecognised - ignoring
consumer_avformat.c: video codec libtheora unrecognised - ignoring
Floating point exception

Same crash when doing mp4 format export.

Let me know if you need more information.

Try installing these packages, and see if that fixes it:
libavformat-extra-52 and libavcodec-extra-52

Thanks,

every version of openshot i've tried to install on three different machines with totally different configurations(1 jaunty, 1 koala, and 1 mint) has had this same problem i can't export anything in x264 or xvid without it crashing and creating a corrupt file. I'm wondering if i'm setting up something wrong. I've checked that i had the unstripped versions. i installed openshot right after installing so it's from a clean install. I don't see why most people don't have the same problem.

hopefully this is figured out soon, i am crossing my fingers i can use this program for some projects due at the end of the month

You may well need to install the 'unstripped' ffmpeg libraries, which aren't normally installed due to patent conncerns:

sudo apt-get install libavcodec-unstripped-52 libavdevice-unstripped-52 libavfilter-unstripped-0 libavformat-unstripped-52 libavutil-unstripped-49 libpostproc-unstripped-51 libswscale-unstripped-0

Sorry, just to clarify, the 'unstripped' libraries are for Jaunty (9.04), which the original reporter was running.

For Karmic (9.10), replace 'unstripped' with 'extra' in the package name, e.g. libavdevice-extra-52

thanks. I had done this from researching forums, but no luck. I think the real bug is that i'm cursed.

Alright. CORRECTLY upgrading fully to Openshot 1.0 worked for me. This was a real problem for previous versions of the program i tried on my machines. It also was a problem after i did not install the new openshot correctly. I had the problem where OS wouldn't start due to python binding, so to fix the problems i installed the dependencies with deb installers, which opened the program but i still had the old problem. When i went back, uninstalled Openshot, python-mlt, all other mlt packages/libraries(only worked when i also removed these), then reinstalled with ppa, everything was golden. I'm almost completely linux. Once i either can get used to blender or lightwave CORE is release for linux, i'll have no reason to use anything else. See thats what people like you do. You stop the need for people to buy into bad licensing by offering better free stuff.

so for me the new openshot cleared up this problem for me.

As I said in my comment I have installed the -extra-packages. This is what Synaptic did:
libavcodec52 will be removed
libavformat52 will be removed
libavutil49 will be removed
libavcodec-extra-52 (version 4:0.5+svn20090706-2ubuntu3) will be installed
libavformat-extra-52 (version 4:0.5+svn20090706-2ubuntu3) will be installed
libavutil-extra-49 (version 4:0.5+svn20090706-2ubuntu3) will be installed
libopenjpeg2 (version 1.3+dfsg-4) will be installed

Are there anything else that I have missed?

As I also said, I still can't export HD videos for Vimeo or Youtube, iPod or MPEG4 (Xvid). (These formats are examples, I haven't tried all available formats).

I think it's reasonable for a user to not have all encoders installed, but then OpenShot should communicate that to the user, or perhaps not even have the failing formats available (or active).

Is that something that can be handled as a solution to this bug, or should we file a new one with that specific solution in mind?

Although it has not been logged separately (OpenShot should communicate that to the user, or perhaps not even have the failing formats available), it has come up as part of another similar bug. In fact it's probably the same bug, but just a different format (aac). So there's no need to log it separately.
