Bug Description
Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit, OpenShot v1.4.3
Short and sweet: Take a video, extract a clip from it, try to reverse the clip, and nothing.
I made a little video demonstrating this:

Same problem when I modify the speed, reverse or not, the clip is replaced by INVALID in a large black square. No such issue in version 1.4.2. I use Mageia Linux.

It works for me with my various file types. I would suggest following the FAQ here:

Maybe you have an old version of MLT that doesn't like your particular source files, you may need to transcode them to another format.
