Bug Description

I created a new project using my default profile DV/DVD Widescreen PAL (720 x 576 with 16:9 aspect ratio) in OpenShot 1.4.2.

I imported a video having a resolution of 720 x 576 and aspect ratio 16:9, and added it to the timeline.

I then created a new animated title - it doesn't matter which title is selected, they all produce the same error.

The animated title's file properties indicate Video Size of 720 x 576, but it does not have a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Initially I thought the title had an aspect ratio of 4:3, but I have since installed MediaInfo (mediainfo-gui in the ubuntu repositories) which reports that the animated title PNG has an aspect ratio of 5:4.

The result is that the animated title does not fill the video frame horizontally, leaving a wide gap on both left and right of the title's background.

I have uploaded two images:

A screenshot of the OpenShot window showing an animated title overlaying the widescreen PAL video at http://gardencam.net78.net/openshot/openshot.png

A screenshot of the MediaInfo window showing the details for the animated title PNG, including the 5:4 aspect ratio, at
http://gardencam.net78.net/openshot/mediainfo.png

Is it a coincidence that each of my two monitors has a native resolution of 1280 x 1024, ie. the same 5:4 aspect ratio as the faulty animated title?

System:
Xubuntu 12.04 x64 Linux 3.2.0-29-generic
Toshiba P750Q laptop
i7 quad core 2 GHz
8 Gb RAM

Effectively, seeing screenshots that's pretty strange.

Could you tell us which version of MLT are you using ?

Thanks.

The 'melt --version' command indicates a different version to the installed version info displayed in synaptic:

Terminal command 'melt --version' = 0.7.7

Synaptic version = 0.7.6+git20120204-2(precise)

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.

Thanks.

It seems like OpenShot tells Blender to render the title sequence with a pixel aspect ratio (PAR) of 1:1 instead of the correct PAR for 16:9 PAL (118:81).

As a test, I repeated the procedure using my laptop's builit-in 1366 x 768 widescreen monitor, with the external monitors unplugged before booting the computer.

The resulting animated title was 5:4 again, so apparently this has nothing to do with the active monitor's resolution.

I looked through the 'neon_curves.py' script in the animated title's output folder, but that just indicates a resolution of 1920 x 1080, so presumably that's just the default initial value before OpenShot applies project-specific values when it runs Blender.
