Bug Description

One feature I used a lot in AndNav and I'm missing in OSN, is the ability to add Open Street Bugs. You can use it to quickly add a POI or a bug. POI's show in OSM immediately, while bugs show up on openstreetbugs org website, where you can visually track them, by location on the map and/or fix from there. I guess, we could use the code from AndNav for this, now that it is open, if we like it.

I like this idea, especially if it improves the mapping data. What we have to remember though, is that OSN is primarily a satnav app, and not a mapping app.

What does anyone else think?

Chris.

I think we should delegate modifications to specialized softwares. (AndNav has too many options)

As a Vespucci developer (http://code.google.com/p/osmeditor4android/), I'm thinking about creating a "modify map" entry into OSN that launchs Vespucci on the corresponding area.
Vespucci is just an example and could be too complicated for beginners, but since we only call a map intent, we could choose any other (simple) mapping applications.

I think that's a great idea!
I'm surprised by how much Vespucci has improved - when I first gave it a go it was so slow to be basically unusable but now it runs pretty well even on my G1.

I tried Vespucci and wasn't sure how to proceed to say just add a POI. Is it simple? The Andnav UI is very simple. In case you haven't try it, what you do is (1) move the cross-hair to point where you want it, (2) click Ok, (3) select between POI and a bug and (4) for POI enter the type from the long menu, while for the bug, enter a bug desciption. Click OK. And you are done. I was able to add bus stop POI while waiting for the green light (sorry for bragging). If it bloated OSN too much, do you see some kind of optional plugin? Oe, may be we could carve it out as a separate application to be installed only by those who want it?

Well, Vespucci's still not very easy to use. Cloudmade have decided to limit their iPhone app to adding POIs only and have managed to make something pretty good:

Vespucci's not that complicated, but I know we have some work to made it more user friendly.

@droidguy
With Vespucci, (1) download map, (2) add a POI, (3) edit the POI, (4) send the data.
But each step needs several clicks...

As somebody who has contributed to OpenStreetMap since 2005...

It would be excellent if OpenSatNav could include a *very* simple bug feature. Never mind what Vespucci does, all satnav apps that use OpenStreetMap-derived tiles should include this feature.

I'm less sure about a direct POI editor. I've noticed a few POIs being added in my area by Mapzen users and they're rarely accurately placed.
