Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Open an MSOffice Word 2002 SP3 template (.dot) with OpenOffice Text

OpenOffice.org 3.0.1 Text Writer
OOO300m15 (Build 9379)
openoffice.org-core 1:3.0.1-1ubuntu1intrepid1, Fri Jan 30 17:50:52 UTC 20

Use the template : add text, some pictures

Save the document as MSOffice 97/2000/XP
At this time the document seens OK

Re-open the saved MS Office document in OpenOffice 3 (above release) :
a) trouble displaying the tables for the 2 first pages
b) space between paragraph number and text for <Titre 1> style (and ithe title styles also) has changed (text moved from 0,75 cm to 6 cm + tab has been moved to 5.25 cm to 6 cm

At this step then document form has chaned but still can be used in OpenOffice
Openning thig document in MS Word 2002 SP3 however makes the document cannot be used :
- number of pages moves from 6 to 112 (approximatly 1 ligne per page !)

Found workarround: saved the document as RTF. Some formatting also lost but usable in MSOffice

Added some attachement to show what appends (1 zip archive file)
- CROfficeTemplate.dot = original MSOffice Template
- CRooo3doc_asMS97.doc = saved as MS Word 97/2000/XP (never openned in MS Word at this step)
- CRooo3doc_asRTF.rtf = saved as RTF (seems to be acceptable workarround)
- oo3_about.jpg = screen copy of my openOffice version (included in documents)

Documenter workaround and similar bugs found in launchpad
This bug seems to be caused by tables beginning or ending outside of margings within the document.
Changing the table to be included in the margins seems to cause the document to correctly re-open in MS-Word or in OOO text as a Word Document.
Hope this could help to correct this bug

ludo33200, regarding the issue of how Page 3's Heading has it's tab stop move exporting the .dot to .doc is unreproducible in Ubuntu 11.04, LibreOffice Writer via the Terminal:

cd ~/Desktop && wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/324751/+attachment/453260/+files/exportMSWord.zip && file-roller -h exportMSWord.zip && cd exportMSWord && unoconv --listener && unoconv --format=doc CRofficeTemplate.dot && lowriter -nologo CRofficeTemplate.doc CRofficeTemplate.dot

notice how Page 3's Heading is the same in both the .dot and the .doc file. Does this work for you?

[This is an automated message.]
There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.

Since this bug hasn't been touched in a while and the Incomplete autoclose didn't work, I'm going to close it.

If you can still reproduce on a new version of Ubuntu, please reopen it.
