Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy, OpenOffice.org 2.3.0

OpenOffice Writer completely ignores text in tables when comparing documents. I have several large documents where ALL the text is in tables, so I cannot search for changes among them. If I convert the tables to text and do the comparison, the changes appear, though of course the tabular format is completely lost. (In my documents, the table cells each contain one or more paragraphs, so tabbed cells will not work.

To reproduce:
1) Create a new document
2) Insert a table of any size
3) Type text into the cells
4) Save the document
5) Type some additional text into some of the cells
6) Save As... a different name
7) Choose Edit --> Compare Document... and pick the file saved in step 4
8) None of the changes are highlighted.

Reproduced in Openoffice 2.4.1 (Windows XP).

I was *very* surprised to discover this failure when comparing two document versions with contents entirely contained within a table. It was the first time I've used the 'compare documents' feature, and I simply assumed it was broken. It would be nice to get a 'no differences found' message after the comparison to at least know that the operation has been performed. At the moment, when no differences are found between the documents (in this case, with all content within a table), you don't get any GUI feedback at all.

Cheers, Belzecue.

[This is an automated message.]
There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.
