Bug Description

After upgrading to 331.113 I have experienced distorted desktop. I have also experienced the same problem after trying to upgrade to 14.10 and that's why I've reverted to backup of 14.04.

I is quite strange. Unity controls are ok. I.e. Dash and panel on top look ok. But desktop itself and application windows are stretched to multi-monitor setup. If I arrange monitors side by side, desktop and applications are distorted horizontally. If I arrange them top to bottom, desktop is distorted vertically.

It is interesting, that even screenshot is taken "as is", i.e. showing distortion.

On my current setup I have Dash on both (or three) screens and top panel repeating. In the screenshot with distortion, however, there's only one Dash and top panel is not visible (only line seen) on laptop screen.

Mouse cursor is ok, but it is impossible to point to correct location on desktop or application window: some "hit and miss" involved.

I am using Nvidia Optimus with nvidia-prime and lightdm for dual or three monitor setup (with docking station), laptop screen running on Intel card.

I suppose this might be simply old configuration files or some package version, that is not compatible with 331.113. I've reverted to 331.38 and everything's ok. Note, that upgrading to 14.10 had exactly the same effect.

I doubt the BIOS update would change anything, but will try it out.

Also I've forgotten to include, that LightDM login screen looks OK across multiple monitors.

BIOS was upgraded:

$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
8BET62WW (1.42 )
07/26/2013

However, that did not change anything. With 331.113 the same problem exists.

I have also made tests with docking station and two external displays. The results:

1. LightDM login screen is OK
2. Dual monitors from docking station with laptop screen turned off: OK
3. Three monitors from docking station with laptop screen turned on: FAIL
Laptop screen is turned on, but is black. Cursor can be seen on it, i.e. mouse can move to laptop screen, but windows cannot be dragged and icons (i.e. X desktop begins at) are on second display. Screenshot is also attached.
4. Reverted to 331.38: three monitor setup is OK.

Attachments will follow.

I have the same bug with driver 331.113 on Lenovo T530 - when I switch into 2 monitors (one monitor is built-in and second is external) - icons and dialogs are distorted-Not OK.
When I switch " the same picture on both monitors " picture is OK. When I use only built-in laptop monitor picture is also OK.

Tantibus Vulgaris, just to clarify, which driver and version are you using in Trusty that does not reproduce this problem?

Tantibus Vulgaris, could you please test the latest upstream nvidia driver (340.65), and advise if this is reproducible? This will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

I was unable to set it up on my PC. There was too much fuss about kernel version, DKMS and newer GCC version. So cannot check.

I may be experiencing a similar issue. Mine manifests on boot and also if I unplug my external monitor -- Xorg crashes and I am returned to a login screen.

I installed 340.76 to see if this would fix the issue, but it actually made it worse since now my laptop's built-in monitor can only run at 640x480 with that driver. Same goes for 352.21.

I got a notification during install of the drivers that a preinstall script failed or something to that effect, but continued anyway. The effect is the same, but there is no crash report generated with the updated drivers when I unplug my 2nd monitor.
