Try removing the profile folder (rm -Rf ~/.wine-browser) and restarting the app. This is caused by a Firefox update, so newer netflix-desktop versions disable the update when they create the profile.

I am trying to 'switch channels' to BT SPORT - I can log-in and view some content BUT I am presented with an instruction to UPDATE silverlight - the system requirements specify minimum 4.0! I have just installed all the packages as required by WEB Upd8 but I do not see Firefox in Unity /Dash (just the FF Web Browser) - so I am running from NetFlix application.

Hi Simon,

I'm not entirely sure what you're doing, but you should see "Netflix Desktop" in the dash if you've installed the netflix-desktop package. If you upgraded from an old package then you might need to re-create your profile, but I haven't heard of anyone trying to use these packages to access BT SPORT (so it may not work).

Best,
Erich

Hi, Eric

When I first tried BT Sport (launched 1st August) - I was 'halted' by a message to install Silverlight. I have been through the Netflix/Wine route on Ubuntu 12.04 and all appears to work.

Trying BT Sport now the message has changed to upgrade silverlight - see attachment. What version of Silverlight have I downloaded? Clicking "remind me later" has no effect.

Wish List: a Firefox/Wine/Silverlight/Adobe FlashPlayer Browser application.

Hi Simon,

It could be that BT Sport now requires Silverlight 5. If that's the case then there's nothing I can do about this until I figure out how to get Silverlight 5 working. You might try Netflix or something else that will allow Silverlight 4 and see if it works for those services, if it doesn't then you need to make sure you upgrade to the latest netflix-desktop and wipe the profile folder (rm -Rf ~/.wine-browser). If you do that then it will return everything to a known-working Firefox and Silverlight combination (at least for sites that support Silverlight 4!).

Hi Simon,

I pushed a new version of netflix-desktop this week that supports Silverlight 5 (for most sites). Could you please:
1) Update your version of netflix-desktop to version 0.8.2
2) Install the Silverlight 5.1 package:
sudo apt-get install wine-silverlight5.1-installer
3) Launch the special Wine Firefox browser with the Silverlight 5 plugin loaded:
DEPENDENCIES="wine-silverlight5.1-installer" wine-browser
4) Try to use the site

Please let me know if that works, if it does then I'd be happy to make a special package for BT SPORT :)

Hi Eric,

Onwards and very nearly upwards! I assume step 3 means to edit /usr/bin/netlix-desktop to:

#!/bin/sh

# Enable translation capabilities
. gettext.sh
export TEXTDOMAIN="netflix-desktop";
export TEXTDOMAINDIR="/usr/share/locale";
# General strings that are translatable
gettext_service_name=`gettext "Netflix Desktop"`;

WINE_BROWSER="/usr/bin/wine-browser";

PACKAGE="netflix-desktop" DEPENDENCIES="wine-silverlight5.1-installer" SERVICE="${gettext_service_name}" URL="http://www.netflix.com/" "${WINE_BROWSER}" $*;

--------------
The error message I now get (6036) is NOT in the BT Help 'list of error messages' but appears to fall in the Silverlight catagory. I have asked their Help Desk for more on this, but they do not seem to be the most 'helpful' group!

That sounds like they've turned on HDCP, which requires certified graphics drivers ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc838192%28v=vs.95%29.aspx ) and is a problem that started affecting LOVEFiLM a while back. I have not figured how to handle that yet, and it will likely take a significant amount of effort to fix. Unfortunately, that means I probably won't get to fix it any time soon :(

Hi Simon, I've been told by some of the "pipelight" guys that you can get BT Sport working with Silverlight 5.0. Please try this:
1) Install the Silverlight 5.0 package:
sudo apt-get install wine-silverlight5.0-installer
2) Launch the special Wine Firefox browser with the Silverlight 5.0 plugin loaded:
DEPENDENCIES="wine-silverlight5.0-installer" wine-browser
3) Try to use the site

Hopefully that'll do the trick for you, apparently SkyGo and BT Sport work with this older version (but not with version 5.1 for some reason). Let me know if that works out for you!

Hi Eric,
BT Sport gives Silverlight ERROR CODE: 6025, but I will try some more tomorrow as I had other (minor?) problems!

Hi, again, Eric

1- Uninstalled Netflix-Desktop (ND)
                           Wine-SilverLight(s) 4.0, 5.0, 5.1
2- Reinstalled Netflix-Desktop
                           Wine-SilverLight4.0 (ND requires 4.0) + 5.0 but NOT 5.1

Logged on to BT-Sport and IGNORED missing plugins message (Flashplayer?) clicking shuts ND down

Tried ESPN Channel and watched twenty minutes of Baseball!
           Tried changing channel to BT Sport 2 (Scoccer) and got the error code: 6025 crash

Logged out entirely of BT Sport and ND
and ran: rm -Rf ~/.wine-browser

Tried ND + BT Sport 2 and watched Soccer! But still could not change channel.

I hope this makes some sense, at least if BT Sport has something I want to watch I can thank you for getting me there.

Hi Simon,

Sorry it's taken me a while to get to this, have you tried with the recently updated versions of wine-compholio and netflix-desktop? It may work better with more recent versions, as the Pipelight guys found some Wine bugs that contributed to problems with some services.
