Bug Description

After installing netflix-desktop, the silverlight plugin is not detected. I can log into netflix and browse videos, but attempting to watch one produces a page which says

I take it that deleting the ~/.netflix-desktop folder and re-launching doesn't fix the issue?

I was able to get this working. I'm not sure what precisely it was that fixed this. I'm also not sure if it completely 100% works, as this is on my netbook which lags horribly, but I can view the videos.

What I did:
removed ~/.netflix-desktop
restarted netflix-desktop <-- wasn't working
removed ~/.netflix-desktop
ran "sudo apt-get purge netflix-desktop"
ran "sudo apt-get install netflix-desktop"
started netflix-desktop <-- can view videos. Has very bad lag, most likely due to this being on my netbook.

I'm planning on installing this on my desktop later, and hopefully I can duplicate the issue as well as my resolution of the issue, and verify that it works.

I've run into the same bug. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. Looked for a .netflix-desktop folder in my home directory but it doesn't appear to exist. I try downloading the silverlight update and running it, but upon reloading the page there is no change.

In newer versions of the package the profile folder is now in "~/.wine-browser" (since the package works with more than just Netflix now). So, I would try wiping the folder like so:
rm -Rf ~/.wine-browser
and then run netflix-destkop again.

I have tried:

sudo apt-get purge netflix-desktop
sudo apt-get purge wine-compholio
sudo apt-get purge wine1.3
sudo apt-get autoremove
rm -Rf ~/.wine-browser
rm -Rf ~/.wine

Netflix was working fine on this computer before I had to reinstall the OS due to some Samba problems 2 days ago. Now I can't get past this stupid "install Silverlight" error. Please help.

Hi Steve,

There should be a hard dependency on "wine-silverlight5.1-installer", though apparently the lucid version of the package is missing this dependency :/ I would guess that if you install the package manually then it should work around the problem:
sudo apt-get install wine-silverlight5.1-installer
