Additional testing produced interesting results.
This machine has a dual boot: Jaunty Remix and Windows XP.
When Jaunty Remix is launched, the machine doesn't recognize the internal camera (tested with Skype and Cheese).
But if you first launch Windows, then Skype, test (using Skype) that the camera is recognized, then reboot to Jaunty, than Jaunty suddenly recognizes the camera! Tested with Skype and Cheese.
If after that Jaunty is restarted, it still recognizes the camera. But if it's shut down and rebooted again, it doesn't recognize the camera.
As a result, I came out with a weird work-around: to use a camera while running Jaunty Remix in this machine, first boot up Windows XP, make sure that the camera works, and then restart the machine to Jaunty. The "magic" happens and the camera works in Jaunty.
Can someone comment about why Jaunty behaves this way?
