This mode is useful for generating statistics about network quality.
Note that each running instance of

generates a significant amount of network traffic. Using
.B mtr
to measure the quality of your network may result in decreased
network performance.

Clearly what happened here is someone intended to type \-c but
left out the '-'. Then troff cheerfully interpreted the \c and
the resulting omission in the formatted output is difficult to spot.
