Remove the separate searchbar as an option

You can easily remove the search bar enabling the 'customize toolbar' extension.

Yes, but that extension can't close bugs in Midori. Removing the separate searchbar cleans up Midori's code, closes these bugs, and is one less use case to have to support/test/worry about.

All these bugs are about taste and as such they're correctly called 'wishlists'.
Some could be called controversial at least, like I think most people (me including) find obviously helpful to have the search engine's icon showing in the searchbar.
Another personal taste of mine is the 'new tab' button placement in Midori. It's been there since earlier versions and I always felt it very intuitive and notwithstanding that you asked for the back/forward buttons to be there and someone else asked for that button to be in the tab bar...

Not angry, just stating the reasoning behind the report and the desire for a change in design.

Building an application isn't just about what works technically, you have to take into account users that don't necessarily understand your intent with the application (and for some developers you have to understand what your intent with the application actually is). The reasoning behind changing the icon in that particular report has to do with feature discovery. Not everyone knows you can click that icon to get more options. Having the type of engine hinted in the field and changing that icon helps a user to not only understand what that field does in the immediate term, but also helps a user understand what that field is *capable* of doing.

It's not about personal tastes at all, it's about creating a better browsing experience (and in this case, also helping make Midori more maintainable for it's developers) ;)

how are the optional modules structures in midori's code? can we put the search bar in that segregated group, and offer an option to compile/install those modules (what i'm asking is, i'm not sure when you disable/enable your module, it's actually getting un-installed).

In elementary Luna, the searchbar is included in the URL bar, dont know if that has to do with midori for Ubuntu 11.10.

to do this, you simply need to change the configuration file of midori, just remove the line/the code with the searchbar from the configuration file. That did Jupiter, too.
