Bug Description

Dear Madgraph developers,

I recently installed the new MacOS operating system called Ventura.
With Ventura the Preview program, which is the one that is routinely used with Mac to open figures, does not support anymore eps image format.
Would it be possible to use PDF format for the figures generated by MadGraph, for example the ones of the diagrams?
Thanks for the consideration!

Best

Hi,

Personally on venturra,
I'm opening file by starting to use ps2pdf
and then opening it with preview.

I guess that you can create an script that is register as an app.
Such that you can use that trick if you double click on a file/...
But I never investigate that.

For the display diagrams command of madgraph, I have implemented the above trick within MG5aMC
and this should be part of the LTS (Long Term Stable) version (2.9.13) and of the latest release version (3.4.2)

PDF is not a text file format, so I do not know how to write those and would need a (cpu extensive) converter so I would not run the converter systematically.
I would consider, for the future, an option that would force to run a converter (like the option preventing to generate those eps file).

Cheers,

Olivier

Hi Olivier,

thanks for quick reply.
What's the tool or the script that in LTS convert eps into pdf?
I have written a script myself by if there is something already in MadGraph it is useful to know.

I'm using the ps2pdf script.

[missions]$ which ps2pdf
/usr/local/bin/ps2pdf

Given that it is from /usr/loca/bin, it might means that this is not a script which is present by default on Ventura.

Cheers,

Olivier

Sure there is ps2pdf in Ventura.
I misinterpreted your message. I have thought you were referring to a script into MadGraph.
I have created a short script that uses ps2pdf and that convert eps into pdf generate with Madgraph. You can find it in attachment. Maybe this is of help for someone or it could be integrated into MadGraph.

Well, I did implement something into MG5aMC. See here:
https://github.com/mg5amcnlo/mg5amcnlo/commit/cfc67e6c9714b5dc0445d5c40364b5a77c1e686a

But this is only if you use the "open" command of madgraph.
That command is in particular used by "display diagram" command of madgraph.

But this is certainly not covering all the cases where a user wants to open an eps file.
