thunderbird is not integrated if .thunderbird directory is restored from back up

Bug Description
On a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04, if you copy your .thunderbird directory from a previous install, "set up mail" simply launches thunderbird. You do not get the "Mail", "Compose new message", "Inbox" options or unread message counts.
