Your pastebin is not related with the icon sizes. I'm aware of the lxpanel errors, because it's "intentional" for tweaking the new scroll, until find a "cleaner" solution, but can't anyway affect to the menu icons.

Well I added that in case it was related but indeed the bug is about the
fact that the icon in the menu is larger than all the others. I should
point out that this is not the case with any other icon.

I've just confirmed this. It happens with some "rare" or unsual apps. And it's important in the chemistry section apps (gElemental, f.ex.). I need to try it with other environments, like XFCE.

And it's only with the default icon theme ? Is it different with another icon theme ? I suspect it is more a problem with lxpanel than the icon theme.

the other thing strange about this is that on my system that started out as a quantal system (not upgraded from precise) i don't have this issue. completely different looking lxpanel, too.

also you sure about that dupe? they seem like two distinctly different problems.

This bug is not icon theme or artwork related, but rather related to LXpanel.

Following was tested:

*) Several different icon themes & LXpanel => same bug.

*) Several different icon themes & Xfce4-panel => no bug.

Hi, I know this is much later, but some of us on the Lubuntu dev mailing list are working on tracking down this issue. It seems that many programs using an xpm format for the icon have this issue.
There isn't a clear fix for this yet, but if you want a work-around you can use imagemagick to convert the image.
usually this icon is located in /usr/share/pixmaps
So from a terminal
convert <whatever the icon name is> -scale 22x22 <whatever the icon name is>

Most of the packages affected are not maintained in Debian anymore.
The proper fix would be to edit the rules file and desktop file in the source to make a png image the icon image with a relative name
Desktop file snippets:
Icon="ProgramName"
instead of
Icon="/usr/share/pixmaps/ProgramName.xpm"

I can't reproduce this problem on trusty, with lxpanel 0.6.1. If you have an example of a program which have this problem, feel free to add a comment to this bug report.
